Selectors have planned to drop under performing Sri Lankan batsman, Kusal Mendis for the 2nd test match against England starting on Friday, at the Galle international cricket stadium.
Mendis was out for 04 consecutive ducks during his last 05 test innings and only managed to score 15 runs at the Sri Lanka’s second inning in the first test against England last week.
Selectors have decided to recall Suranga Lakmal and Oshada Fernando, who were spotted playing a card game in the dressing room by TV cameras during the first test match.
Dimuth Karunaratne, Sri Lanka’s captain has been rested for the second test match due to his thumb injury providing the opportunity for Dinesh Chandimal to be the captain for second game as well.
Roshen Silva will most likely to replace Mendis in the side while Oshada Fernando and Suranga Lakmal are also likely to return to the final 11.
Five players, including Dimuth and Kusal have also been released from the tour bio bubble. Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru Kumara and Minod Bhanuka are the other players released from the bio bubble
Mendis have been directed to enhance his technical skills at High Performance Center at R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium.
Meanwhile, Chief selector Asantha De Mel has said that he would resign from the team manger post after the England series, media reported.
