It is reported that senior lawyers are preparing to take a decision not to vote for those who are campaigning in a low manner due to the low level of Bar Association elections.
“A senior President’s Counsel told us that one of the candidates for the presidency was running his election campaign in defiance of even legal ethics.”
Lawyers are recognized in the society as the most educated professionals in the country, but in recent days there has been a preliminary campaign of distributing election gifts such as pens and diaries for the Bar Association elections. We are also hearing about mudslinging and SMS campaigns against one candidate.
One such text message we received read:
President’s Counsels Saliya Peiris and Guevara de Zoysa have applied for the post of President of the Bar Association.
