The government has decided to provide 27 essential items below the market prices through Sathosa, Co-operatives and Q-shops within the next three months. This was stated by the Minister of Trade Dr. Bandula Gunawardena at a briefing held at the Ministry of Trade today (05th Feb).
The Minister briefed the media on the relief available to the public due to the difference between the current prices of 27 essential commodities in the market and the prices issued to consumers by the CWE through the Co-operative Society under the Goods Stabilization Project.
The Minister of Trade stated that this will be implemented from next Monday to provide maximum relief to the people in the face of the current global epidemic.
The Minister said that if there is any problem in obtaining these items, the 1998 telephone number is available for inquiries and the 1977 hotline is available for complaints regarding price frauds
