Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will put its entire weight to safeguard democratic rights of all Sri Lankans and also MP Harin Fernando, Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said today(10th Jan).
Mr. Premadasa was referring to the remarks made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa with regard to the recent speech made by Mr. Fernando in Parliament.
“We will put our entire weight behind MP Fernando and will take up the task of safeguarding democracy and freedom of expression. Expressing his or her views in Parliament is a privilege enjoyed by an MP,” Mr. Premadasa said.
He said that burying democracy ends up in political wilderness. “We all saw how US President Donald Trump lost the support of some men from his own political party,” he recalled.
“We expect the IGP to enhance Mr. Fernando’s security. The government will have to take the blame if something happens to him,” he also said.
