‘Restrict travel and avoid large gatherings for new year celebrations’

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health yesterday(29th Dec) urged the people to restrict travel and avoid large gatherings for new year celebrations.

Speaking to the media, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera urged the public to continue to follow health guidelines amidst the spread of COVID-19 as still COVID-19 positive cases are reported everyday in the country. “We have noticed that certain sub clusters emerged in the country as a result of mass gathering events,” he said.

He further said devotees to refrain from engaging in Sri Pada pilgrimages at least during the 1st 03 months of the pilgrimage season.

The number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 in Sri Lanka crossed 34,000 mark yesterday(29th Dec).
