Pivithuru Hela Urumaya proposes to change official name of Sri Lanka in new constitution

Minister Udaya Gammanpila led Pivithuru Hela Urumaya today proposed to change Sri Lanka’s official name when enacting a new Constitution for the country.

The suggestion was among 13 proposals submitted by The Pivithuru Hela Urumaya to be included in the new Constitution.

According to Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, Sri Lanka should be officially referred as Republic of Sri Lanka, not as Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya says that a country should be democratic or socialist not by name but through actions and therefore they have proposed the country’s name to be changed as Republic of Sri Lanka, media reported.
