Import restrictions to be continued

Central Bank Governor said that Sri Lanka will continue restrictions imposed on imports including vehicles.

Speaking to media, Central Bank Governor, Prof W D Lakshman said restrictions will continue to impose until balance of payment situation returned to targeted level.

Sri Lanka has imposed restrictions from dry tumeric to vehicles in a bid to overcome country’s worsening balance of payment situation since last year.

The Governor said import restriction is a good option in terms of longer terms point of view though it create some short term difficulties, media reported.
