Hijaz Hezbollah, a lawyer, is due to be produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court today (18th Feb) on charges of having close links with terrorists who carried out a series of terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday and teaching extremism at a madrassa school in the Puttalam area.
Following the instructions given by the Attorney General yesterday (17th Feb) to produce the lawyer who was in the custody of the CID on a detention order for nearly 10 months.
Hijaz Hezbollah, a lawyer, was arrested by the CID on April 14 last year on charges of having close links with terrorists who carried out the Easter Sunday series of attacks and teaching extremism at a madrassa school in the Puttalam area.
Meanwhile, the CID has arrested Mohamed Shakeel, the principal of a madrassa school in the Mundalama area in Puttalam, last night for allegedly carrying out extremist teachings allegedly carried out by Hijaz Hezbollah, a lawyer.
According to the instructions given by the Attorney General to the IGP, the suspect should be arrested and produced before the Magistrate’s Court after studying the CID.
