Government’s desire to uplift the local film industry.

The government has agreed to provide relief to uplift the local film industry.

It is reported that this agreement was reached during a discussion with the Minister of State for Finance Ajith Nivard Cabraal.

Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Minister of State for Finance met a group of filmmakers and directors yesterday (08th Feb) to raise awareness on the current crisis in the local film industry.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, veteran film director Somaratne Dissanayake said, “As filmmakers, we presented a program to the Prime Minister some time ago. As a result, Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal called us today and asked about our problem and the situation there. We made an explanation. What is the current state of cinema and what are our problems? What relief we hope for. In particular, the government aims to give the 4 percent loan concession scheme offered by the government to uplift industries and businesses to cinema as well. We can be happy with their response. We promise to do it now. ”
