Government is organizing to provide free sanitary napkins to all school girls studying grade 06 and above, education ministry sources said.
This follows a survey conducted by the ministry, that revealed that about 1.2 million school girls are avoid attending schools every month during their menstruation.
It has also found that 65% of girls attending schools do not use proper sanitary napkins as they are not affordable for the rural and lower middle class families.
Since the situation affects girls’ educational activities, the education ministry considers to provide free sanitary napkins on state expenses for girls studying above the grade 06 at all government schools.
A proposal in this regard is likely to submit for the cabinet approval shortly, ministry sources said.
