Central Bank predicts Sri Lanka’s economic growth rate in 2020 is around – 3.9% – Governor

Central Bank Governor W D Lakshaman forecasts Sri Lanka’s economic growth rate in 2020 is around negative 3.9%.

Presenting Sri Lanka’s monetary road map for 2021 today(04th Jan), the governor said impact of the COVID 19 pandemic has resulted Sri Lanka’s worst ever economic growth rate since independence.

He said second quarter of 2020 was badly hit but economy was shown some what improvement in third quarter only to hit by the second wave of pandemic in the fourth quarter.

The governor also said that Central Bank expects to maintain single digit interest rate throughout 2021, media sources reported.
