Seargent Dinesh Priyantha Herath who won the Gold medal at Tokyo Paralympic Games, has been promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer 1 by Army Commander General Shavendra Silva with the approval of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Defence Secretary.
Dinesh Priyantha won the first Gold Medal for Sri Lanka after he set a new World Record in the Men’s F46 Javelin Throw with a distance of 67.79m
Gen. Silva said Dinesh was promoted as he made history by winning the first-ever Gold Medal in the Paralympic Games.
Herath is from the Gajaba Regiment of the Army which represents President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunerathne and Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army Gen. Shavendra Silva.
Gen. Silva said that prior to the departure to Tokyo as Captain of the team, Sergeant Herath assured him that he would definitely bring glory and admiration to the Army and to the country.
