Anti COVID-19 vaccine will be available in Sri Lanka in April

Presidential Adviser and Coordinator of the Anti COVID 19 Vaccination program in Sri Lanka, Lalith Weeratunga said that, the vaccine developed against the global pandemic will be available for Sri Lankans certainly before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April.

Speaking on a TV talk show on Monday night, Weeratunga said the government is focusing to start the vaccination program in end of February or early March.

“I will be able to tell an exact date in future, but vaccination will be started certainly before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April”, Weeratunga said.

He said, that in the 1st round, vaccine will be given to 155,000 front line health workers followed by 127,500 frontline members of the military and police. Therefore all necessary financial resources already being finalized to purchase the vaccine for Sri Lanka, he further added.
