8 treasure chests on private land

Eight suspects who were digging for treasure in a private land were arrested this morning (4th March) on suspicion, said the OIC of the Nuwara Eliya Divisional Anti-Corruption Unit, Upa Maldeniya.

The suspects were arrested by the Nuwara Eliya Divisional Anti-Corruption Unit on a tip off that a group was digging for treasure on a private land in the Dambethenna area in the Maturata Police Division.

Among the suspects arrested were eight persons, including a gangster, a father and a son.
The arrested suspects are in the age group of 20-40 and the suspects are residents of the Maturata area.
The arrested suspects are to be produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court.
