Eleven people have been killed in road accidents in the past 24 hours, police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. A police spokesman said that five motorcyclists were among the dead.
The Police Media Spokesman stated that the death toll of 11 persons per day is more than normal and that there are around 120 road accidents occurring island wide these days.
He also noted that speeding, drunk driving and disobeying road signs have led to many accidents.
