10 deaths reported Yesterday due to road accidents

The Police said that a significant increase in the number of fatal road accidents has been reported in the country once again. Police Spokesman, (DIG) Ajith Rohana said 10 deaths due to accidents were reported yesterday(17th Dec) alone.

7 deaths were from road accidents reported yesterday. The remaining 3 were of patients injured in accidents on Wednesday (16th Dec) who had succumbed to injuries while being treated at hospitals yesterday(17th Dec).

Pointing out that 10 fatal accidents per day were reported before the coronavirus pandemic, DIG Ajith Rohana said a similar situation is currently being noted at present in the country.

The Police Spokesman further said that a special operation has been launched from today(18th Dec) to arrest drunk and reckless drivers during the upcoming festive season.
